Future Generali India Life Insurance Embraces Diversity with their DiverseAbility Internship Program

Mumbai, December 02, 2022: On the occasion of DiverseAbility Day, Future Generali India Life Insurance Company Ltd (FGILI) launched the FG DiverseAbility Internship Program in 2021. It was established as an affirmative undertaking; it is now being instituted annually. The goal is to on-board diverseable interns in the same manner as one would hire any other intern, even without an umbrella program necessarily. Under this unique program, specially-abled candidates are hired for internship positions for a period of two months. On successful completion of the program, interns stand a chance to secure long-term roles with Future Generali India Life Insurance.

The Diversity Internship was launched with the intent to enhance and provide employability to people with diverse needs and skills. The biggest nemesis for such undertakings is tokenism and a conscious effort was made to circumvent that by involving multiple departments and functions in this initiative. This was to engender a genuinely long-term and sustainable culture of looking beyond the disability and focusing on the capability of a person to perform the role.

The first leg of this program kicked off in December 2021 where a total of 03 interns with disabilities were hired under the following categories – Partial Physical Disability and Partial Auditory Disability. In the first round of implementing the program, a (mailer) invite was sent to eligible candidates. The second round involved quizzes on three sections – logical reasoning, situational judgment on the organization’s strategy plan, and questions specific to the company. Round three constituted a final interview conducted by the functional head.

It is also an opportunity for everyone to demystify and course-correct their myths/beliefs on diversability. We believe they are not disabled but ‘differently abled’. Future Generali India Life Insurance Company Ltd. is also set for the second leg of the FG DiverseAbility Internship Program starting December 2022 and aims to provide internship opportunities. The company will also reduce employment barriers and ensure comfortability, pre-work, and workplace sensitization before boarding. FGILI will provision hearing aids, and voice recognition speech-to-text applications and cater to employees' preferred mode of communication as is. Measures will be taken during day-to-day functioning and an HR spokesperson will be allocated for induction and grievance at all times.

With the increase in awareness and activities around fair representation in the workforce, initiatives like DiverseAbility Internship Program contribute to making the future of diverse hiring a current reality.
