Ruchira Bharadwaja:
What's the difference between learning and not learning.
Yogi Sriram:
Un learning is dismantling a mental model. Let me illustrate. There's a lot of talk these days about using AI, artificial intelligence in making decisions. The problem is that some of our own personal biases maybe locked into that artificial intelligence algorithm.
So it's very important to be aware of one's biases to be very aware of a particular mental models relevance during a time. And to relook at mental models which are relevant according to the times. Some mental models will never change but some mental models need to be looked at again. I mean if you look at the development of medicine for example the field of medicine, the mental model changed completely. There was a particular surgeon in the British Navy were experimented with something as simple as lime juice in order to rate the sailors who are out in the sea for many days of a disease called SCOBY. All it meant was giving that sailor one orange a day. So the modules are learned or unlearned depending on your capabilities to research.
