Be a Fit father

A bucket list contains a list of all the activities and experiences that a person wishes to have before they die. These could be out-of-the-way activities that they have never had access to before or been too scared to try earlier.

Rajesh began working at around the same time that his parents were approaching retirement. He could see that they were becoming anxious, the closer they inched towards retirement. Having worked full time all their lives, Rajesh's parents were unsure of how they would spend their retirement years just sitting at home. They had planned well ahead and had everything they could wish for - a beautiful corpus parked in their accounts, a term insurance policy that ensured Rajesh was well taken care of and an eternity of time to spend. But they were at a loss of how to spend their golden years and put all the planning they had done to good use. That's when Rajesh came to their rescue and drew up for them an extensive bucket list of all the activities and experiences that they had refrained from earlier. In order to look up options on all the unforgettable experiences that people had

Rajesh learnt that bucket lists could range from the simplest of experiences that can be tried at home to adventures that must be sought far away from home. Read on to glimpse a bit of what went into the list he drew up:

  • See the Northern Lights:
The Northern Lights is a natural phenomenon that occurs in high latitude regions, both in the northern and southern hemispheres. While the one in the northern hemisphere is referred to as Aurora Borealis, the one occurring in the southern hemisphere is called Aurora Australis. It is a spectacular sight that must be witnessed at least once in life, and the best place to view the lights is from Alaska, U.S.A.

  • Volunteer for a Charity:
Many NGOs allow citizens to volunteer. On a bucket list, you can add a social cause that you care about particularly and volunteer for it. Retirement involves a lot of free time and devoting that free time to helping others is a great way to spend time. Not only will you feel much more rejuvenated, but you will also help others at the same time.

  • Participate in Adventure Sports:
Head to a place that has a lot of adventure sports of different kinds. These could include parasailing, diving, snorkeling or anything that you have always wanted to try but restrained yourself from. Adventure sports provide an adrenaline rush unlike any other, and if you have never done it before, it's a great reason to add them to your bucket list.

  • Ride an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV):
Riding an ATV is a thrilling experience that should be attempted at least once in life. An ATV can transport you over the most rugged of terrains and riding it over different kinds of terrain will give you a thrill that will be quite an experience to remember.

  • Climb a Volcano:
Many people list climbing a mountain on their bucket list, but climbing a volcano can provide an even bigger thrill. There are several dormant volcanoes scattered across India and even the world, and hiking to the top of these can be quite an adventure. Just make sure the volcano you decide to climb has been dormant for a while!

  • Fly a Hot Air Balloon:
Another adventure of a lifetime, riding in a hot air balloon can be thrilling as you move above the surface of a town. Riding in a hot air balloon feels like a much more realistic experience of flying as compared to in an aeroplane, which is shut and does not give the same illusion. This is a one-time experience that must be tried at least once by everybody.

  • Learn a new Language:
Very often, people get so busy with corporate life that it leaves them with no time to pursue new skills. Once you are retired, you will have much more time to try out new things and learn new skills. You can learn a new language which will give you a whole new vocabulary and a whole new set of books and movies you can read and watch. Additionally, you can travel to the country or state where that language is spoken and make a whole new batch of friends as well!

  • Ride a Gondola in Venice:
Venice is one of the most picturesque towns in the world, and visiting Venice is incomplete without taking a gondola ride. Not only will the experience be unique, but you can make it even more special by asking a friend, spouse or relative to accompany you. Ride through the streets of Venice in a Gondola, and take in the sights of this beautiful and charming city.

  • Climb the Tallest Building in the World:
The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, measuring 829.8m, is the tallest building in the world. Climbing to the top of this building can be an amazing experience, which allows you to gaze upon the beautiful city of Dubai.

  • Go to a Musical Festival:
Many people go to concerts during their lifetime, especially if it's their favourite artist playing. However, a music festival is best left for the bucket list since it can be quite an immersive experience. Most music festivals take place over a few days' time and attending these can feel like entering a different world altogether.

Some of the options brought out immense excitement in Rajesh's parents, others brought out a bit of surprise, but nearly every one of them brought a smile to their faces. They couldn't wait to get started. You too should wait not a second longer to get cracking on that bucket list
